Mite Calculator
Know your treatment threshold instantly

Overview
The Mite Calculator takes the guesswork out of varroa management. Use the simple counter to enter your mite count from a standard 300-bee sample (half cup), and get an instant mites-per-hundred-bees calculation with a clear treatment threshold recommendation.
Results are color-coded with three tiers: green (under 2% β monitor), orange (2β3% β consider treating), and red (over 3% β treat immediately). At 5%+ the label escalates to Critical. The visual display makes it easy to make quick decisions in the field.
Every calculation is automatically logged to your hive's inspection history, building a timeline of mite pressure that drives the Risk Radar varroa risk score.
How It Works
Open the Mite Calculator from the tools menu.
Use the + and β buttons to enter the number of mites found in your wash.
The calculator divides by 3 (based on a 300-bee sample) to show mites per hundred bees.
Review the color-coded result and treatment recommendation.
Tips & Best Practices
- π‘Always sample nurse bees from brood frames for the most accurate count.
- π‘A half cup of bees equals approximately 300 bees β the standard sample size.
- π‘Alcohol washes dislodge more mites than sugar rolls, so they're more accurate.
- π‘Test monthly during peak season (spring through fall) to catch increases early.
